Forklift Steering Valve - A valve is a device that controls the flow of a fluid such as fluidized gases or regular gases, liquids, slurries, by partially obstructing, opening or closing certain passageways. Valves are generally pipe fittings but are typically discussed as a separate category. In instances where an open valve is concerned, fluid flows in a direction from higher to lower pressure.

Valves are utilized in various applications like commercial, military, industrial, residential and transport businesses. A few of the major trades which depend on valves comprise the power generation, water reticulation, sewerage, oil and gas sector, mining and chemical manufacturing.

In every day activities, the most common valves are plumbing valves as seen as it taps for tap water. In nature, veins in the human body act as valves and regulate the blood circulation. Valves can be driven by changes in pressure, flow or temperature or they could be automatic. These changes could act upon a piston or a diaphragm which in turn activates the valve. Some popular examples of this particular kind of valve are found on safety valves or boilers fitted to hot water systems.

There are more complicated control systems using valves that need automatic control which is based on external input. For instance, regulating flow through a pipe to a changing set point. These circumstances usually need an actuator. An actuator would stroke the valve depending on its input and set-up, allowing the valve to be situated accurately while enabling control over a variety of requirements.
